Anna Maria Island

We headed to the beach today. Anna Maria beach is a large beach with sand that is powdery and blindingly white against the clear aquamarine water. We did not see many birds when we arrived but it was not long before many shorebirds arrived! Unlike Sanibel there is a huge life guard tower with some cute lifeguards!

Our plan was to watch people walking the beach gaze at the beautiful blue water BUT that changed. We sat with our backs to the water and watched numerous sand volleyball games! The college kids were there having a blast playing sand volleyball and entertaining the non players!

After the volleyball viewing we took a drive to explore the quaint Holmes Beach area at the end of the island. After driving around this area we got into the traffic to get off the island. One bridge leads off the island and it was busy!
