When you can.....make it to Great Falls, Montana. Today I drove the RV for over an hour. Driving a 40 foot vehicle with a Jeep behind it is much different than driving a car. It was a tense 90 minutes barreling down the highway at 65 mph, but I learned to control the monster!  We took a back road , highway 200, and were amazed at the number of beekeepers in this remote area. It was an open range for cattle and sheep and the only people we saw were beekeepers tending all the bees.
This area definitely lives up to the nickname of Big Sky, the stars seem so close and are so bright. The only thing blocking our amazing star view is the smoke from the Canada and Alaska forest fires. Who would have thought we would see and smell smoke from fires so far away.

When you can......... Learn of new places! Today as we traveled down highway 94 in Montana we came upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This park looks very much like the Badlands because they extend this far. I had no idea this area of huge oil wells was also a part of the Badlands.

When you can.....perform a good deed!  While traveling down highway 94 we didn't see many vehicles and then we came over a hill and there was a fire that had started by the highway, spread to a field and was quickly moving across that field. I wasn't sure I'd have phone service, but I tried and was successful in placing a 911 call informing them of the fire and its location. The operator thanked me and said she would send fire trucks. Four hours later I received a call from a Fire Chief thanking me for my call. He stated that the fire would have caused much more damage to the fields and could have gotten out of control if they had not been notified

When we can continue the journey, which is just as interesting as the destination, we are on the road at 7:15 A.M. and plan to make Fargo, ND before 5:00 P.M.,  get parked and ready to watch NASCAR, the reward for a long day of driving. Everything worked great!

If you know one thing about motorhome repairs, it would be that they are never speedy. The facility does not usually stock the parts you need so they must find a dealer that has the specific part, have it shipped, and then install. The finding and shipping cause the big delay in getting the job completed. Then there is the cost. We needed new calipers and they are a special type that are hard to find and cost over $3000. each plus labor. This is went you are very happy you DID get the extended warranty and your deductible is only $100. plus the cost to ship the very heavy parts! This caliper replacement has put us 10 days behind schedule!

Why Stay Home When You Can..........

We are still home 7 days after our departure date! Why stay home???The calipers on the front tires/brakes went out just as we hit the road. We were lucky enough to be close to home so we could return home and wait for the parts to arrive. If you own a motorhome you will understand that traveling is usually so easy, but when things go wrong the delays are usually long! Traveling in a motorhome is like putting your house on wheels and moving it at 60 mph. 

This delay also puts this trip blog on delay. Not much to write about when we are at home and living out of a suitcase! We had to bring clothes home for this delay and restock the home refrigerator.

Yesterday we went out to the motorhome and emptied that refrigerator so things won't spoil before we eat them!
