We were at the Cancer walk talking and listening to all the excitement. Natalie had Elcie’s hair dyed pink and when the newspaper reporter spotted Elcie she came right over for pictures and an interview. A TV news lady came with the reporter to get pictures and a comment. I had received my EIGHT YEAR Survivor items and was wearing them. In the midst of everything and as the reporters arrived I realized my shoe was untied and bent down to remedy this problem. Just as I bent down the National Anthem singing began I was on one knee. Both reporters snapped to attention and wanted to get pictures and a comment from a survivor on one knee. Natalie grabbed my arm and pulled me up before I was able to tire my show with the typical irritated “Mom”. I did not realize what was happening till at the end of the Anthem when they asked me to get down on one knee for pictures and then a statement. “NO, I was tying my shoe!” It took a bit of convincing to get them to understand this would be - fake news - because “I was tying my shoe!” They walked away irritated that I robbed them of a great story. Natalie bent down and tied my shoe.
