On December 30, 2018 Duffey had a major bicycle accident in Sanibel, FL. He was ringing his bell, to alert others he was coming, as he rode around a blind corner where he encountered two riders that were stopped on the bicycle path. When he came around the corner and saw them he was going to just go around them but one rider went to the right, as she should ,and the other rider pushed his bicycle right in front of Duffey causing Duf to fly over his handlebars. Duf remembers screaming in pain and the guy that caused this accident told him to get off the path so he didn’t get hit again. Duf remembers telling him to send someone to stop people as he saw a lady on a bicycle come around the corner, see him on the ground, and hit a tree. Someone called 911 and Duf was taken to the hospital and the EMT called me to meet them at the hospital.
Duf has 3 broken ribs in front, 4 broken in back and dislocate from spine, cracked spine, punctured lung, and dislocate shoulder and a long road to recovery.
He was in the hospital 7 days and in a rehab facility, that he hated, 4 days and then I brought him home to recover.
Natalie came down for two weeks to help Duf and I. We worked with Duf and got up early to go shelling.
We had long ago planned that I would return home with Natalie so I could go to my appointments. I had to leave Duf for a week and our wonderful neighbors took amazing care of him.
