I planned to return to FL today so Natalie and I decided to stop at Garrets for lunch and then she would drop me at the Rockford Airport. What a convenient way to go back and forth from FL. While we were getting ready to order lunch Natalie overheard two ladies discussing their Allegiant flight to FL being cancelled. After we ordered lunch I received a text from Allegiant stating that all Rockford flights were cancelled for two weeks. I was later told that Allegiant was getting all new planes and their arrival was behind schedule and the older planes were grounded.
We headed home while I called Duf to let him know I would not be arriving today, called Carole and Jerry and told them not to pick me up, and got on the computer to schedule another flight.
I was able to schedule a Frontier flight the following day at 2:00. Natalie had a full day of work scheduled so she dropped me at the bus station at 7:30 AM! I took the 8:00 AM bus to O’Hare to watch people and wait for my plane.
On the bus ride I met two ladies that were headed to FL and had also been scheduled on my cancelled Allegiant flight. We decided to wait for the flight together and headed through security.
They flew through security and saw me get stopped. At this point the ladies began to act as if they had no idea who I was. They walked around a corner and watched what happened to me. I only had a backpack with my laptop, my new bras, a book and a couple of shirts. I took the laptop out and put it in a bin and tried to get through security. I told the checker I had a pacemaker/defibrillator and he directed me to the body scanner I could use. As I exited the scanner a female officer shouted, “Stop Her!” Immediately I was surrounded by four male officers and walked to the female officer. She asked for a list of what I had in my bag and I told her. WRONG. She informed me she was going to empty my bag and I said, “OK that is fine with me.” She replied, “I am not asking your permission.” The male officers kept around me and the female officer began tossing my bras on the counter and under the bras she pulled out my dvd burner. OOPS I forgot I brought that. She said, “ A computer in your bag is not allowed.” I told her it was a dvd burner and I was sorry cause I forgot it was in there. She was quite rude but the males decided to believe me and said I could go. They immediately opened the lanes and I had to grab my bras and things and take them to a bench so I could repack everything.
After I repacked and walked around the corner I saw my lady ‘friends’. They asked what had happened and we got a bit of a chuckle. Now I had to go to the bathroom!
We walked down the hall and got on the long distance walking escalator. At the end of the escalator was a short hall with a restroom so I decided to use this restroom. The ladies walked on and we were planned to meet at the food court.
I was the only person in the restroom as I entered the center stall of the three. I closed and locked the floor to ceiling door and did what I was there for. When I tried to leave the door was stuck shut! I tried to get the door open and realized I was trapped and claustrophobia hit hard. The door opened in and there wasn’t anything to get ahold of to really give it a pull. I was just starting to hit full blown panic when someone entered the room and I yelled that I was trapped and the door was stuck tight. She tried to push the door in and it would not budge so she said she was going for help AFTER she peed! Finally she went out and got another younger girl that came in and tried to open the door with her shoulder and feet with no luck. She went and got her friend and the three ladies all pushed and finally the door flew open and they all flew in! I was elated to get out!!!
We left the room and an airport employee was near and they told her about the door. My lady friends wondered if I had ditched them and were shocked when they heard what I had been doing.
Luckily the remainder of the wait and the flight went smoothly and Carole and Jerry were waiting for me in FL! Duffey was ecstatic when I finally got back!
