From Eugene OR we took 58, 97,140 and 395 to Reno, NV. Our most startling event happened about 20 miles after entering California. When we asked they informed us every vehicle, on every road entering CA, was stopped and questioned, it was worse than crossing into Canada. They asked where we had been for the last two weeks, where we planned to be for the next two weeks, and if we had any fruits or vegetables. The officer warned us that if we said No to the fruit and vegetable question, they would search our refrigerator. We said we had cherries and that if they wanted to look in the frig they were welcome to come in. We gave them the cherries and were told we could pull over, eat the cherries and give them the seeds and stems, we refused and were on our way.
