We are now driving through Canada alone. The trip is over and we have all split up and headed for the border. We left Prince George BC and drove to Ashcroft for the night. The area around Ashcroft is abundant with fruit and vegetables growing in the fields and stands selling these items along the highway. Ashcroft is a sandy desert area that has mild winters and great soil for growing fruits and vegetables. Ashcroft also has a dragstrip, but it was closed for the year.
We left Ashcroft and drove the Gold Rush Trail or Canada Highway 1. What an amazing drive through Frasier Canyon along the narrow, winding mountain road with no shoulders to Hope. At the summit of one mountain we drove through three long tunnels. Signs all along the highway labeled the area Hells Gate. It was a beautiful drive, but very tense because it was straight down on the passenger side and there were no shoulders or rails along the road. At one pull off area high in the mountains we observed a Black Bear trashing a Bear proof trash container. The container lost!
The small towns along this highway enjoy very little sun because they are tucked in the middle of mountains on all sides.
