The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, TX is the home to a replica of The Resolute Desk; the desk used in the Oval Office. President Bush wanted his Museum to have an exact replica of the Oval Office accessible to the general public. The Resolute desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to President R. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship HMS Resolute. The histories of the desk, and the only replica of the Resolute desk, are both quite interesting.
Look closely at the emblem on the Resolute desk front and then look at the emblem on the rug from the Oval Office. What do you see that is different? Why is it different?
