When you can visit the Aztec Ruins, they were not built by the Aztecs but the Spaniards called them Aztec and the name stuck. For years around 1200, ancestral Pueblo people planned and built a settlement that included public buildings, smaller structures and ceremonial buildings. Bands of green sandstone along ground level and about waist high were included in their walls. There is a Chaco influence in their buildings but they were different to reflect their master plan.
