We spent last night at the San Antonio, TX Flying J gas station. This morning we moved to the Alamo KOA, voted the Best KOA. This KOA holds over 300 rigs, has camping cabins, a pool area, and is very clean. After we got settled we caught the city bus to downtown. The bus was $1.20 each way, much easier and cheaper than driving. We found the River Walk and explored the restaurants and shops. This area was lush with foliage and the restaurants had seating on the river that was full of ducks. There were signs all around discouraging feeding of the ducks but it did not seem to discourage people. We decided to have drinks at one of the many restaurants and as we were enjoying the atmosphere and drinks a duck ambushed me and bit me on the leg! I tried to scare him off but when I was not looking he returned for bite number two!
Our second day in San Antonio was consumed with a tour of the city. We began with the Alamo, took a ride on a boat around the River Walk, visited the Japanese Gardens, walked around the Mission San Jose and Mission Concepcion, went to the Buckhorn Saloon and museum where we watched a local show being filmed and sampled their potent lemonade, then we ended our tour with a visit to the delicious Mariaghi bakery on Historic Market Square.
The Buckhorn Saloon is full of animal heads inside and outside!
