We arrived in Austin, TX around 11:00 and parked the RV’s at the Walmart. We were then off to Sixth Street which is a place that exemplified their slogan, “Keep Austin Weird” and we loved it. We had drinks at the Casino elCamino, a very quirky place to say the least. After wetting our whistles we continued our walk to find the Iron Works Barbecue restaurant where we consumed BBQ ribs with creamed corn, in real cream, and Carole and Jerry consumed the pulled pork with mac n cheese. To walk off all this delicious food we continued on to the ornate Driskill Hotel which is home to the LBJ suite. Carole and I tried to persuade the bell hop into let us in the room but he was saved by his boss and we did not get to view the decor of the LBJ suite. We did take a moment to treat ourselves to one of their finely appointed Ladies Rooms!
Our next stop was the VooDoo Doughnut shop where we dined on delicious donuts! The guys were crazy enough to get a dozen so we could bring some home, just what we need---more sugar!
After our doughnuts we returned to the car for a windshield tour of Austin. The capitol building was impressive with its high towering cupola in a rich brown color. The University of Texas is in the shadow of the capitol building and houses the impressive LBJ Library and Museum.
